John Wesley (1703-1791)

(1) No member of Parliment fought harder to abolish slavery and slave trade in the British Empire than William Wilberforce (1759-1833).  More about Wilberforce. In July 1833, as Wilberforce lay dying at the age of 74, word was brought to him that a bill to outlaw slave trading throughout the British empire had been introduced in Parliament. Wilberforce died on 29 July 1833.  One month later Parliment passed the Slavery Abolition Act ending slave trade in the British Empire.  Forty-two years had passed since John Wesley had written his last letter to William Wilberforce...
